Vana (part 2)

I returned to Vana in mid-2025 as UX designer and web engineer. The first stint was 2022–24 where we created Portrait, an AI image generator before ChatGPT.

In my role as UX designer and web engineer, I would take ideas form the founders, sketch to confirm understaning then shift into code as fast as possible. Most UI design occurs in code to increase velocity. A good example of this is the Vana App across web and MacOS desktop, were I designed and built the onboarding in code based on the design system I’d previously created.

Once users had completed their onboarding, they would be directed to the Memory page. Here they could view their memories over time, and add new data sources.

My favourite part of the app was the settings UI system: a series of highly organised panels with key information tracking user data across external usage, with precise controls over that use.

I designed the identity for PDPP, an open protocol for scoped access to personal data so apps and agents can use purchases, messages, and workouts without a grab. Visit PDPP.

I designed and built the ODL Playground in 3 days. My favourite part of it is the tailored typography fade and swap on scroll, using CSS only. Visit ODL Playground.

The 2022–24 work is a separate post.
